  • Apple TV has released the official trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2
  • It shows off more footage of the new Titan X that’s set to be this season’s adversary
  • Titan X is a Kraken-like creature similar to the monster in Netflix’s Skull Island, but with a reptile head

Before the official trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 dropped today, all we’d seen of Titan X, the mysterious new monster set to be the new season’s colossal threat, was its shadow, which was massive enough to dwarf a whale.

Described as a 'living cataclysm', Titan X initially appeared to be a cephalopod-like kaiju based on the brief shots in January’s one-minute, 35-second teaser. But the newly released trailer, which runs for more than two and a half minutes, reveals there’s far more to the creature than first meets the eye.

Taking us back to Kong’s Skull Island, the second season of Apple TV’s Monsterverse series reunites Kurt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett and Anders Holm as their characters come face-to-face with the new titan.

What does the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 trailer reveal of Titan X?

The trailer for Legacy of Monsters’ second season wastes no time establishing Titan X as an alpha monster. One of the first major shots shows its claw-lined tentacles tearing through a warship as if it were paper.

The sequence feels lifted straight from Norwegian folklore about the Kraken, as the legendary sea monster is often depicted wrapping its tentacles around ships and dragging them into the depths.

In fact, the Kraken previously appeared in Netflix’s anime-style Skull Island series, where it battled Kong. Since that show is now canon, the original creature can’t still be roaming this timeline, suggesting Titan X is a much more ancient species.

What truly sets Titan X apart is its head – instead of a traditional octopus form, it resembles a horned dragon. While the reptilian features may suggest that King Ghidorah, from classic kaiju lore, could have been defrosted, Titan X is an entirely original creation rather than a direct lift from Toho’s roster.

Could this mean Kong and Godzilla are in for their biggest battle yet? With Titan X on the loose, Lee Shaw trapped in Axis Mundi (the space between Hollow Earth and the surface) and the team reunited on Skull Island, there’s no telling what kind of monster mayhem awaits.
