The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played across 16 cities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States over the next month. Eleven of those cities are in the United States. Teams began arriving in the U.S. over the past week, and a German fan named Freddy has gone viral for posting his first encounters with American delicacies, such as Chili's and Wendy's.

What's more American than McDonald's?

McDonald's is commemorating the World Cup with its own limited-edition "FIFA World Cup Meal," comprised of 10 Chicken McNuggets, medium World Famous Fries, and a medium soft drink. Soccer (or football) fans will care more about the fact that each meal comes with a collectible cup.

"Each cup features a legendary player, like Lamine Yamal, Son Heung-min, Thierry Henry, Ronaldinho, David Beckham, Alphonso Davies, Christian Pulisic, Santiago Giménez or Grimace with your meal," the official listing reads.

Yamal is the 18-year-old wunderkind touted to lead Spain to its first World Cup title since 2010. Davies is a beloved star on Bayern Munich and the Canadian men's national team, while the other host cities are represented in Santiago Giménez (Mexico) and Christian Pulisic (USMNT). Son Heung-min is a South Korean icon, but he plays his club ball for Los Angeles FC.

Of course, everyone is well aware of the bona fides of Beckham, Ronaldinho, and Thierry Henry.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will kick off with Mexico against South Africa at Estadio Banorte (Estadio Azteca) in Mexico City at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday. The United States will open against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, at 9 p.m. ET on Friday.

Pulisic, nicknamed "Captain America," spoke with Newsweek last week about his mindset entering the World Cup.

"Honestly, I just feel like a kid who has this dream, and it's right in front of me here," the United States attacker said. "I just have such a crazy opportunity in front of me to do something special with this team. That's how I feel. I'm so excited for it. I really don't have much else to say.

"Of course, there's pressures and things outside going on, but I'm just trying to live in this moment and enjoy it as much as I can. It's not every day you get to play in a World Cup, especially in your home country."
